When it comes to being self-employed, I find that the pace is quite rushed, I go go go while I work and try to get as many things done as possible so I can enjoy my free time without thinking about work... when you're self-employed, it's easy to think about work all the time, especially with a home-office, so sometimes I find it difficult to switch from the go go go pace to slowing down and enjoying breakfast or time with my daughter.
I've caught myself wanting to get into the office and get some work done here and there while my daughter plays, but I really should just switch my hat and become a dad who's attentive and focused on nothing but my daughter. I've been making sure I take more time when it's just the two of us to relax, sip my coffee slowly, and enjoy every moment. Then, when she naps, I rush to get as much work done as possible!!!
Then, my wife gets home and after she goes to bed, I usually work for a few more hours. Then on some evenings and weekends, Eugie comes over and we jam/record, so I have to add the music stuff into the work time that I'm already doing too much of and family time that I'm doing plenty of. I don't know how I'll manage being on tour... I'm really not looking forward to the slow, boring pace of the days while being far away from my family. But I am looking forward to going on the road and having the time to think and enjoy playing music across the continent/world.
Anyway, I just got back from a wedding rehearsal and have to finish editing a presentation that I'll project at the reception tomorrow night. Thankfully, this is one wedding that's on a Friday so I won't miss my family weekend time. That or I can edit all day Saturday.
Now my hat is Blogger.
Soon it will be editor.
I know we all wear different hats but what I think my main problem is the switch. I tend to still be wearing my work hat when I should be wearing my family hat.
