A gig's a gig...

I am getting sick and tired of bands in this town thinking they're above any other band. Seems like once a band gets a slice of what it's like to play festivals and open for major label bands, they alienate the very scene that supported them to begin with.

Listen, I've opened for major labels artists. Eugenio has done much more than myself in that regard as well. That doesn't mean we're not willing to play a show for 10 people on a cold February Tuesday in Edmonton ever again.

Let me make a statement on my soapbox:

Signed or not, if your band doesn't have a draw of 500 people or more any given evening, then you have no right thinking you are above ANY other band in your town.

There are a handful of bands that I don't even ask to play with us anymore because whenever we play, they think they deserve something more than the other bands. More money, longer sets, better time slot (which I don't believe exists if you have a good draw anyway), better place to put merch... I've heard some of the stupidest things! That's another post...

Being confident about your band is one thing. I love my band. But thinking you're band, that has no draw, is somehow above playing with other hard-working, music loving bands in this town is delusional. I think bands in this town need to show more support and less attitude.

And by the way, if you're a friend of mine, and in a band, then this post is not directed to you... that's why you're a friend of mine.

Anyone who shares my sentiments should email me if they want to play some shows together.
