Whether you like it or not, or know it or not, today is No Music Day. If you pick up today's Edmonton Journal, you'll read an article about it and notice that I was asked my opinion about it. My opinion was aptly quoted by the great music journalist Sandra Sperounes. This is on the cover of the Culture section...
Read the article here.
Tomorrow, we'll be featured in the St. Albert Gazette. I had a nice, lengthy chat with Anna at the Gazette, and she has likely written a great feature on the band.
Anyway, I was looking at Brent Oliver's website and I stumbled upon this poster. I forgot about this show. It made me realize that some bands like to brag about all the bands they've played with, opened for, had open for them, and that I have to start doing that more. :) We had 2 great bands open for us that night, and everyone forgot, including myself. Well, rest assured, this will not go unmentioned. From now on, when a band asks us to play with them, I'll say, "No, because we've already had bigger bands than you open for us, so we don't do that type of thing anymore. Or we've opened for bigger bands than you, so we won't do that type of thing anymore." Yeah, that's what a real band says.
Haha. All you can do is laugh at some bands. The posturing. The fake rock star attitude. People are so pre-occupied with image and gossip - it's refreshing to just listen to music and just enjoy it. I've been learning a lot lately. Don't know what it is, but I think I've realized what I expect from the music industry. I'm satisfied with where we're headed, and thanks to some well-timed advice, I'm more determined than ever to get out there and play.
Also, as for No Music Day... I didn't observe it in the slightest. I listened to the same old compilation CD that my wife has in the car and I enjoyed it like usual. It has Natasha Beddingfield, David Gray, Dave Matthews, Counting Crows, Eddie Vedder, and Franz Ferdinand on it... I ALWAYS crank the Franz Ferdinand song. Always. It makes me feel good. Now you know what... there may be days when I never deliberately listen to music. But those are like the days I don't call my mom. I meant to, I just didn't really have the time.
