How can you stick it to the man?

MSO is an indie band with major label distribution.

We are not signed, meaning we don't have a label with loads of cash spending money on extravagant limo rides, etc...

By signing a distribution deal directly, the band sees more of your money when you buy an album, instead of 90% of it going to everyone but the band.

A small portion goes to the distributor, in our case, Universal, a small portion goes to the retailer, and the rest goes to the band. It's a majority percentage and you can feel happy that when you buy Nucularboy, you are supporting an independent artist much more than you would be supporting any major label artist.

When you buy a major label band CD, the band gets 10% or so. Better than nothing, you bet... But the labels get rich much quicker, and don't believe any of the crying poor that the labels are feeding you.

When you buy an indie band CD, whether from the stage or at a store, the majority of your money goes to the artist, which means you are allowing "non-corporation created" art to continue thriving and are in essence, telling the labels that they are not needed.

YOU are in control of the music industry, not the record labels or the radio. Tell them what YOU like by seeking out and supporting artists that sound good to you.

You are the DJ for the soundtrack of your life. Support indie artists and they'll reward you with honest, good music.

Request MSO on radio, if they claim not to have it, tell them you want it!
When Nucularboy hits stores, bring 5 of your friends and buy it! If the store doesn't have it, tell them to order 10 more copies! Then tell 10 of your friends to go buy it!

If you guys do this, MSO will never need to make a deal with a major label; even if the band sells 90% less than their major label counterparts, they'll still be making records on their own terms, without a commitee, because the fans of original music have spoken.

This turned into a manifesto of sorts... oops.

Coles notes:

BUY THE ALBUM IN STORES OR ON ITUNES.
MOST OF THE REVENUE GOES DIRECTLY TO THE BAND, NOT TO ANY LABEL!

Peace and love, My Sister Ocean
